Dave Trujillo
Founder and Trainers Director of Total Failure
Sports and overall athletics has always been a passion of mine
and major part of my life. The more you get to know me, the
more this would come to no surprise.
I began training at Gold’s gym but soon returned back
to my roots at Powerhouse Gym in Temecula where I pursued my
passion of training in February 2007. Over the years I have
compiled my experience in boxing, Thai boxing, playing and coaching
football in San Marcos and in Temecula. I have developed
the passion to train and pay it forward to those who need
the help to overcome their plateaus or even the motivation
to walk through the doors at the gym. I am a real human being
that has been on both ends of the spectrum and can relate
to those who feel they are alone when it comes to physical
fitness and nutrition.
My philosophy is to be who you are, but be in shape and feel
confident about yourself. Lets face the facts, if you’re
5’9” you can’t be 6’1” But if
you are 315Lbs you can be 220. Giving each and every client
of mine the power to know their own bodies and limitations
has led to many success stories of people who have changed
their outlook on life
If you look in the mirror and feel like your in your 60’s,
but only in your 40’s……make a change. I
only use real life experience along with a team I’ve
assembled that share the same passion and desire who are real
life humble individuals as well.
I would like to change gears for a moment and tell you about
the real human side to my life. The story that most people
don’t know
My beautiful wife Mary has been a rock in my life for 18
years. Between the two of us we raised 6 kids, not to mention
5 grandchildren who are seemingly constant reminders for keeping
a healthy lifestyle and staying young.
Prior to running my own companies I was used to constantly
being in good physical condition. As business progressed and
I became more evolved around running my own company, things
began to change mentally and physically for me. Over the span
of 6 years, I watched as my physical condition became worse
as my business slowly engorged my life. I slowly gained pound
after pound knowingly eating the wrong foods / meals day after
day combined with drinking and little to no exercise was taking
a major toll on my body.
I was a walking time bomb waiting for the big one to hit.
Everything I worked for, my family and friends suffered because
of the route I chose. High blood pressure, diabetes and all
the little things that I was once able to do I took for granted
now required great effort. At this point in time, I would
have to drive 1 block to the store because I was unable to
carry all the extra weight I had inflicted on myself.
I was an out of shape man, who at 38 years old felt like I
already had one foot in the grave. Mirrors, windows or anything
I could see myself in became my enemy. I knew deep down I
wasn’t meant to be like this. It was time to change.
I can vividly remember that particular day that finally changed
my life. My wife had approached me with a picture she thought
I looked pretty good in and convinced me to look at it. It
was a picture that we took with my sister and my brother-in-law
at the “Yard House” in Down Town San Diego. I
can’t describe the feeling I experienced when I gazed
over this picture….shock, disgust, sadness and an overwhelming
feeling of helplessness. It was that picture that brought
me to rock bottom. It was this picture that brought me to
the realization that it was time to change.
Overcome with this feeling of urgency and a need for change
gave me the courage to take the first step towards a new life.
I made an appointment the very next week with Dr. Basch in
which I weighed in at 315lbs., blood pressure was high and
my lung capacity equaled that of a 70 year old man. I knew
at that point I couldn’t just jump into an exercise
program that I was unaccustomed to. With the help of a long
time friend who put me on a nutrition program, I continued
to be persistent in my goal of re-kindling my passion for
fitness and taking another step towards saving my own life.
Step 2 would involve another close and dear friend of mine,
Ira Kelly. Just to give a little backround of Mr. Kelly, he
is the owner of Ira’s Fitness Pro’s personal training
facility located in Murrieta, California. Ira is a very well
respected man in the fitness world and is responsible for
the careers of many top bodybuilders and fitness competitors
around the U.S. Here is where I started my rebound and a place
where I was accustomed to in that I would train with Ira from
time to time. This time around however was different. It was
different in that I was no longer going “time to time”
to train, but I was being persistent, dedicated and obsessed
with my training. Being with Ira on a daily basis opened up
a whole new perspective for me and a whole new different outlook
on fitness.
I took charge of my life and continued my diligent mentality
with my nutrition and regimented workout program. The results
of my efforts after 1 year was going from an unhealthy 315
lbs. to a solid 238 lbs! I was now able to do things I didn’t
think were possible when I was 315lbs. After I had lost the
weight I wanted to experiment with the world of bodybuilding.
I grew from 238lbs to 270 lbs. with more muscle and strength
then I could ever imagine. I decided to participate in an
overall contest in June of 07 that Ira had organized to see
how far I could take my new found knowledge of exercise and
training. At the beginning of the contest (which would span
over 6 weeks) I weighed in at 258 lbs. I trained day and night
(with one of the best training partners and motivators I’ve
ever had, Rey Mendez) pushing myself to the limit each and
every session. Every training session we had I learned something
new about myself and what used to be my limitations, were
now a starting point. All the dieting and extremely grueling
hours in the gym (which I loved!!) brought me in at a defined
225lbs at the end of the contest in which I proceeded to take
3rd place overall. In my mind I took first in that I was in
the best shape of my life with all the confidence in the world.
Best of all, I had accomplished what I never thought I could
do.
Today I still teeter from 218 to 230lbs. depending on what
mode I want to be in. Whether its obtaining more muscle and
strength or shedding body-fat and having that “shredded”
look. The knowledge that I have with overall fitness and nutrition
allows me to do this. Not only am I able to do this with my
own body, but I am able to teach my clients how to do this
with their own bodies and give them the knowledge and confidence
to take charge of how they look and feel. |
